Programs

Programs that meet children where they are.

Our work spans the full ecosystem of a child’s well-being — because a child who is hungry, sick, or without safe water cannot learn.

Rainwater Catchment Systems

Rainwater Catchment Systems

Clean water, sanitation and hygiene projects (WASH) remain our key focus of investment of at St. Bruno Children’s Community Foundation. These projects play a critical role in improving the quality of health, education and overall well-being of all children in local community schools.

By providing safe drinking water, clean toilets, hand washing facilities and hygiene education, WASH initiatives create healthier and more inclusive learning environments. We have been honoured to be partners with WaterStep of Kentucky, USA, whose technology has enabled us to bring practical solutions to two poor and rural community schools in Mbarara (Bishop Stuart Vocational School and Nshungezi Primary School) where inadequate water and sanitation services often hindered their children’s health and school attendance.

Overall, WASH projects have successfully improved children’s health, enhanced their learning outcomes, and promoted dignity and equality. Beyond benefiting individual students, these projects strengthen communities by encouraging lifelong hygiene practices and creating healthier environments. Will you join us as we expand access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services to all our community schools?

Shoes That Grow Program

Shoes That Grow Program

Millions of children around the world walk barefoot every day, often because of poverty, lack of access to affordable footwear, or difficult living conditions. While walking barefoot may be a cultural practice in some communities, for many children in rural Uganda it often reflects economic hardship, exposing them to preventable health, safety and educational challenges. These include increased risk of foot injuries, infections, exposure to tropical diseases transmitted through contaminated soil such as hookworms, limited school participation and the social stigma of poverty.

At St. Bruno Children’s Community Foundation, we believe that providing children with safe, durable footwear is a simple but effective intervention that can improve health, protect against injury and disease, increase school attendance, and enhance children’s dignity and confidence. While footwear alone cannot eliminate poverty, it is an important component of improving children’s well-being and ensuring they have a safer and healthier future. Your donation of just $20 US dollars helps provide a pair of safe, durable shoes that can be size adjusted to last several years as a child’s feet grow. We are grateful to the innovations of US-based non-profit BE.Cause International in Idaho.

Community Garden

Community Garden

We involve our sponsored children in planting and harvesting vegetables in our local community garden. Each week, the children and their families gather to pick fresh eggplants, leafy dodo (amaranth), spinach, green peppers, carrots and cabbages which they then bring home to prepare nutritious meals.

A community garden is an effective way to improve nutritional habits, health, and agricultural skills among both children and their families.

By providing access to fresh, healthy foods while teaching practical agricultural and nutrition skills, we can help to reduce malnutrition, enhance academic performance and strengthen long term community self-sufficiency and resilience.

Cycles of Opportunity

Cycles of Opportunity

We have been able to donate about thirty-five bicycles to children in our community who struggle to get to and from school due to long distances, and we look forward to supplying one hundred more bicycles to local children in the next 2-3 years.

Bicycles play a vital role in improving access to education in many poor countries, particularly those living in rural communities. The journey to and from school can be not only physically arduous but also unsafe. Lacking affordable transportation often results in absenteeism, poor academic performance and high dropout rates. Providing bicycles offers a practical, affordable and sustainable solution that helps children stay in school and succeed academically.

Your generous contribution of just $100 US dollars will purchase a sturdy, locally manufactured bike and contribute to expanding educational access and opportunities for these children.

Young adults learning trades through the apprenticeship program

Future Programs

St. Bruno Children’s Community Foundation provides the ongoing opportunity for young adults (currently ages 15 to 27) to learn a valuable life skill and apprentice in their community with local tradesmen for a full year. They can choose to enter one of four offered courses: Automobile and motorbike repair/mechanics, Welding/metal fabrication, Sewing/tailoring, or Salon/hairdressing.

This year, in 2026, the total enrollment is twenty students. Donors who wish to sponsor a year-long apprenticeship may do so on the Donate page. The total annual cost per student for tuition, uniforms, and required tools are as follows:

Hairdresser
$480
Mechanic
$500
Seamstress
$650
Welder
$760

Your generosity keeps a child in school, nourished, and hopeful.

Every scholarship, every Saturday breakfast, every gallon of clean water begins with someone who chose to care. Be that someone today.
